The Oak stands against crisis and
The Iris stands for customer’s pleasure.

cafeIf someone is saying about opening private cafe on a threshold of economical crisis, it gives rise doubt and grin. The same reaction was last summer when a married couple rented the building, reconstructed it and opens a brand new cafe THE OAK & THE IRIS in Windsor Terrace, very close to the Fort Hamilton stop on the F line. But now, half year after, this family cafe is still getting many enthusiastic reviews from customers.
Let’s try to be more objective observing this place based on customers’ opinion.
THE OAK & THE IRIS CAFE opens for breakfast and lunch and serves coffee and coffee drinks, pastries, paninis, and the like, with an emphasis on natural and organic ingredients. Sasha Kameneva, the owner, says that they do not use frozen foodstuffs because they want to keep natural taste of food.
“The coffee was delicious”, “The salads and paninis are decent”, “The food is excellent, especially the lunch and breakfast fare, such as my personal favorite the cuban panino”, “Food is excellent quality, fresh juices”, these words and more were saying about food by thankful clients.
Some customers pay attention for the oil paintings on the walls and the whole design of the cafe. Kameneva says, “The design was created by me, and my best friend presented to my cafe some pictures. It is very pleasant for me to see these paintings, moreover if I know who made them.”
THE OAK & THE IRIS CAFE was inspected on August 20, 2008 by Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Five violations were cited, resulting in 25 violation points. Because the restaurant received fewer than 28 violation points, a follow-up inspection was not required. All violations were not very important for customer service. There are an inadequate lighting, an improper plumbing and the lack of some technical stuff.
Other bad things are a bit loud classical music and high price for some items, but there are not objective points of view. Some people prefer to listen a good music than the sound of cooking and eating. Cafe’s price range on many websites is “S” which means cheap.
Additional credits for this cafe are free Wi-Fi Internet, plenty of room for groups, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff.
“This neighborhood is sorely lacking eating options”, says Claudia C., who provides “good” and “bad” observation of this cafe. “So it's great to have a clean, attractive, relatively good and healthy place to eat. The seating area is nice. As a stay-at-home mom, it's wonderful to have a child-friendly place to hang out during the day.
