The Golden Rule of Parking
We live in the megalopolis, New York. When there are a lot of people, there are a lot of troubles. That is because even one human can be the one big problem. But, if they work together…o, man.
By living so close to each other, we should understand – we are depending on kind acts of others. Lets see one example of a daily routine.
Remember last time when you tried to park your car. How much time did you spend for that? Did you see enough space for parking? How long had you gone around your block? I am answering for these questions everyday.
I have been driving for more than eight years. My real parking experience had began only in New York City. Instead of Russia or other places in America, parking in Brooklyn requires more time and patience. After a few years of having a driver’s job I have noticed that most of the streets in Brooklyn have enough space for all vehicles. I saw how people park.
If they have found place for their cars, they just pull over and leave their cars without thinking that another car would be parked behind or in front of them.
It is as easy as “ABC” to understand the idea of parking. If you see big space behind a parked car, put your car closer to this car. The distance between that car and yours leaving two or three feet is enough to pull out later. Also, using the space efficiently will allow other people to park on this block.
Another point is if you parked next to a fire hydrant. NYC DMV Driver’s Manual says that parking is not allowed within 15 feet (5 m) of a fire hydrant.
Do not park your car away from the hydrant for one and half-length of your car. Think about others. If someone wants to park in front of you by a hydrant because he already spent 40-50 minutes going around, he would get a ticket (115$). Do you want to be on his place next time?
I did not go far to find an example. I just looked out of the window.

This car belongs to a lazy, selfish driver. He parked his car for at least 7 hours and made a useless space. During the whole day he deprived many people who wanted to park here without risk.
The same situation is present in the area around The Kingsborough College campus. Many students, who come earlier, occupy more than enough space for their cars. Lazy people do not think about the others who would park there later. Again, morning time is so stressful.
Some think if they find parking place difficulty, next time they would take double space for their cars. They accept it as a vengeance to others. Thereby this self-absorb position does not bring whole society to the right problem solving.
I want to draw attention to the very old truth. The Bible says, “Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them.”
It is simple and easy to do. No more comments needed.
Let’s park.
